4-1. GENERAL. One of the traits of leadership is knowledge. If one does not possess the knowledge to fulfill the requirements of the office, the cadet can not inspire, lead, or command the respect of subordinates. Thus each cadet is expected to make a positive effort to function effectively as a cadet, a student, and a citizen.
4-2. CLASSROOM REQUIREMENTS.
a. A weekly Training Schedule for the current week and the following week will be posted on the bulletin board in each classroom. It will be the responsibility of each cadet to read the schedule and to be prepared for each class as scheduled.
b. Cadets will maintain a notebook for the class in which enrolled, and are required to bring the notebook, textbook, workbook, paper, and pen/pencil to each class as indicated on the weekly training schedule.
4-3. CLASSROOM PROCEDURES.
a. The senior ranking cadet (excluding BN Staff) in each class will be designated as class leader for the purpose of bringing the class to order for the instructor.
b. Class officers will pick up class attendance rosters, inspection sheets and other pertinent materials from the class box in the JROTC office prior to class. They will return applicable items to the same box at the end of class.
c. Each class will form into their company formation by the time the tardy bell rings. The 1SG will receive the reports and turn the company over to the Company Commander. On uniform days the class will recite the Pledge of Allegiance in unison. On other days individuals will be called upon to name the Chain of Command. The class leader will bring the class to attention whenever the instructor enters. In this military formation, cadets are not allowed to talk or move around.
d. The instructor will turn the class over to the class leader at the end of the period. The class leader will bring the class to attention and dismiss them.
e. Each company/class will rotate a duty week with the other companies. During duty week the company will ensure the JROTC offices are cleaned and policed.
f. All examinations will be conducted on the Honor System. Cadets will do their own work. Any violations of the Honor System will be cause for the examination paper to be taken up and an "F" given for the particular exam.
g. Food or drink in the classroom is prohibited . No paper or other litter will be left on desks or on the floor. Each cadet is responsible for policing the area immediately around his/her desk at the end of each period. Cadets may eat lunch in room 163B as long as the area is neatly policed at the end of the lunch period.
h. The chewing of gum is prohibited in all JROTC classes.
i. Cadets gain recognition during class periods by raising their hand.
(1) When asked a question by the Instructor, students will answer the question with appropriate respect. If the Instructor is an officer or cadet officer, the term "Sir/Ma'am" will precede or follow the answer. If the Instructor is an NCO or cadet NCO, "Sergeant" or "Corporal" will precede or follow the answer
(2) To ask a question, the cadet will raise his/her hand be recognized by the Instructor, and then ask the question following the same procedure as for answering a question.
4-4. GRADING PROCEDURES. The grading system will comply with school regulations. Numerical grades will be given as the overall semester grade. Emphasis will be placed on performance based on attitude, cooperation, enthusiasm, and willingness to work as a team member.
4-5. DRILL FIELD REQUIREMENTS.
a. Cadets will be prepared for drill instruction and performance as indicated in the weekly training schedule.
b. All drill periods will be conducted on the drill field located at the northeast end of the school. If weather conditions do not permit use of the drill field, every opportunity will be expended to conduct required drill lessons in the area of the gyms or cafeteria.
c. Cadets are responsible for being appropriately dressed for scheduled drill periods. Particular care should be given to footwear for drill. Toeless sandals, high-heeled shoes, etc., are inappropriate and limit the cadets' ability to execute drill movements properly. Sweatshirts or sweaters should be brought to class on drill days when weather is cool or cold.
4-6. PHYSICAL TRAINING / CADET CHALLENGE REQUIREMENTS.
a. Cadets will be prepared for Physical Training (PT) instruction and performance as indicated in the weekly training schedule.
b. PT will include sports activities and cadet challenge events.
c. Cadets are responsible for being appropriately dressed for scheduled PT periods. Dresses, skirts, and inappropriate footwear must not be worn. Cadets will be given time at the beginning and end of the PT period to change clothing and footwear.
