Personal Appearance and Conduct

6-1. GENERAL. The purpose of this section is to establish minimum standards of personal appearance and conduct expected of all cadets at Estacado High School. The most positive form of leadership is by example; therefore, anyone seeking to be a leader will strive to set a good example in all things, particularly in his/her personal appearance and conduct.

6-2. PERSONAL APPEARANCE.

a. The personal appearance of an individual reflects directly on his/her personal pride and/dignity. If individuals cannot take pride in themselves, it is difficult, if not impossible, to take pride in anything else.

b. The following are the minimum standards for cadets:

(1) The uniform will always be worn correctly and treated with respect.

(2) Brass items will be clean and polished at all times when worn with the uniform.

(3) Shoes/boots will be highly polished.

(4) The uniform will be clean and pressed.

(5) When wearing the Class "A" uniform the necktie/necktab and shirt collar will not be loosened, and the coat will be fully buttoned.

(6) The uniform will be worn complete and never mixed with items of civilian clothing.

(7) Civilian clothing will be clean, appropriate, and in keeping with the school dress code.

6-3. CONDUCT.

a. Cadets are expected to always conduct themselves as ladies and gentlemen displaying high moral and ethical standards whether in the JROTC classroom, other classrooms, on or off the campus. Always conduct yourself in a manner that will bring honor to JROTC, Estacado High School, your family and yourself.

b. When speaking to an officer, cadets will come to the position of attention; look the officer in the eyes; address the officer by the proper rank and end all statements with "Sir" or "Ma'am."

c. When speaking to an NCO, cadets will come to the position of parade rest; look the NCO in the eyes; address the NCO by the proper rank and end all statements with "Sergeant."

d. When an officer enters the room, the first person to see him/her will call the room to attention. When an NCO enters the room, the first person to see him/her will sound off with "AT EASE, at which time all cadets will come to the position of parade rest."

e. Before entering the cadre office, knock loudly; wait for a response such as "come in" or "Can I help you Mr./Ms.?" and respond accordingly.

f. Proper respect will be shown among cadets at all times. Cadets will address each other by the proper rank and last name.

g. Respect for the flag of the United States will be shown at all times. Flag details will conduct their detail with the pride and respect due the honor of raising and lowering the flag.

h. The following acts of misconduct are specifically emphasized as unacceptable.

(1) Insubordination, disrespect, or willful disobedience to any member or the Military Staff, School Administrative Staff, or School Faculty.

(2) Insubordination, disrespect, willful disobedience to a senior (higher ranking) cadet,officer, or NCO while such cadet officer/NCO is exercising the responsibilities and authority of his/her position.

(3) The use of physical violence or threat of physical violence against any member of the Cadet Corps for any matter related to the JROTC Program.

(4) Uniform violations on or off campus.

(5) Any Class disruption including fighting, arguing, name calling between cadets, talking without permission of the Instructor, etc. Note: Any cadet instigating a fight while in uniform will be administratively removed from the JROTC program and will receive an "F" for that semester.

(6) Any other act of misconduct, on or off the campus, which is unbecoming to be a lady or a gentleman and which reflects unfavorably on the individual, Estacado High School, the Corps of Cadets or the United States Army.

(7) Failure to report for duty the cadet volunteered to perform, i.e. color guard, parades, escorts, etc.

(8) The use of profanity.

(9) Being late to or absent from a required JROTC formation or class without justifiable reason ( to be determined by the Senior Army Instructor).

(10) Running or other boisterous conduct in the hallways, cafeteria, auditorium or classroom.
